A New Way to Monetize and Advertise Your Blog

There’s a new trend sweeping across the blogosphere right now. I’m sure you have already seen it, whether you realized it or not. It’s a new way to make money from your blog without putting in any extra work. I have recently started using it on my blog and you can even find it on this blog.

So what is this mysterious new money making method? It’s a way for people to pay you for a link on your website/blog. You can find it at www.scratchback.com or look over in the right column of this blog and you will see a box with links that say, “Are You in My Top Spots?” If you click one of those links you will find that you can pay to have your link featured there.

The amount varies from blog to blog because the owner gets to set the price. Do you see where I am going with this? You can put these boxes on your blog for free and people will pay you to have their link featured. The highest amount I have seen anyone charging so far was just $10 per link, so you won’t get rich using this method but it is a very quick and easy way to add another income stream to your blog.

These are also a very effective and extremely cheap way for you to advertise your blog or website. I’ve already bought a couple of them on high traffic blogs and one of my links is the 2nd most clicked link on that blog right now. And I only paid $2 for the spot. Talk about getting some bang for your buck!

Whether you are looking for another way to make money from your blog or another way to advertise your blog, I recommend taking advantage of scratchback.

Dedicated to your success,

I’m sure I’m going to make an idiot of myself here as there has to be more to this than meets the eye (or Monika wouldn’t have put it up)…

…But isn’t that little box in the sidebar meant to attract the same kind of paid links that Google are slapping blogs down for displaying?

    I think there are a couple differences…

    1) This is the big one — They use nofollow tags on the links so Google doesn’t mind them nearly as much.

    2) This ones iffy — It’s really just an easy way for your visitors to “tip” you for all your hard work and information. They do get a link return but it doesn’t stay up. It drops as more people tip.

I see where you are coming from Terry. I actually thought about that same question to myself a few days ago. But I think the two things I have said above make it something that Google won’t get all worked up about.

Hehe, Terry, no you are not an idiot at all. To be frank, I slapped it up to test the waters. Funny enough your newest post pretty much slams this anyway.

I’m willing to give this a trial, if it doesn’t work, then so be it.
As for your penalizing from Google question: Trent has already answered this himself. Widgetbucks use “nofollow” so therefore it is perfectly fine with Google.

As you know I’m trying different methods to help monetize the blog (for all of us), but to be honest it might be a bit early still. :-)

    Ah, so thats it!

I guessed it had to be google-friendly or it wouldn’t be here!

I wasn’t actually commenting on widgetbucks here, just the Top Spots widget - but now that some idiot (too much sun and sangria) brought it up in his post, I might as well!

Its ironic how things pan out - After writing that post I happened to check my widgetbucks account and found that not only had I attracted some clicks and made just over a dollar (I won’t go spend it all at once) but I also have five referral dollars pending - not too sure when the “pending” becomes “spending”, but it was a nice surprise!

It’s worth noting that only a couple of niche sites attracted the clicks - none of the IM sites got anything. So I know where I’ll be making some changes!

Hehe…that’s great to hear Terry, it is a start and begs for more attention just like you are going to. :-)

So, were are the takers for this blog? :-) Common, a measly 2 bucks for a top spot link to flash your bits.

    Monika,

I was wondering the same thing about my blog. Where are all the takers? It’s a measly $3.00 for a link on a decently high traffic blog and the widget is in a great spot. Even if it is nofollow it’s still a great deal in my opinion. I’ve bought 5 or 6 of these spots on various blogs so far. I love them!

BTW… I just bought a spot on the widget here on this blog to get it started.

You shall ask and you will be given,
I will return the favor and thank you for starting this Trent. It’s cool to get an email stating “someone just scratched your back”.

    Purrrrrrr….morrre please. :-)

  8. Trent Brownrigg (18 comments.) Says:

Haha I just checked my email and knew immediately that it had to be you who bought the spot. I was right. Thanks!

I agree it was nice to get the email stating, “You got some scratchback luv!”

Hopefully we both get many more very soon.
