A Slight Slowdown?
November 3rd, 2007 by Terry
Could it be? Have we actually started to back off the gas a little and slow down our frenetic rate of posting?
Since its inception, Monika and myself here at Blogging Web 2.0 have been posting like a couple of lunatics. We’ve been going at it hammer and tongs so to speak!
All this hard work has been to pile up our database of articles with an absolute ton of great, unique, informative, interesting and original posts so that as our reader-base expands we have plenty of reading matter to keep everyone interested.
Well, we’ve exceeded all our expectations with this site thanks to our hard graft.
Now we’re pulling back on the reins a little so that we don’t over do it. That doesn’t mean we’re taking a holiday from posting our fascinating fanfare of fantastically fashioned features. That’s a lot of “f”s! No, we’re simply switching our focus from quantitative quality to qualitative quality.
That means we’re throwing open the floor to our readers who we’d love to become contributors. We don’t want you getting tired of seeing posts coming only from Monika and myself (even though they are first class absolutely brilliant works of art…hehe!) but want to provide a greater variety of opinions, writing styles and viewpoints from a lot of different bloggers.
That’s you guys!
So if you have been hanging back in the sidelines waiting for the right moment to submit your own great contribution to this great site - NOW IS THE TIME!
We’ve already had some great contributions from Karen and now Trent and I know Grizzly is putting something together for publication shortly, so get your writing hat on and join us all by being a part of this great adventure!
Simply sign up using the “Register” link on the right of the page and you can submit your post to the site. It’s easiest if you have it already written, spell checked and copied into a simple editing program like Notepad. That’s because more sophisticated programs like Word add a lot of extra characters to your text which can cause formatting problems when you transfer it into Wordpress. Once you’re ready to go, just simply copy it again from Notepad and paste into the “Write” box. Give your post a title and submit!
Job done!
So come on, it’s easy and a great feeling to be a part of this great site. As it continues to grow in popularity, your post and the link to your own blog or website will grow in importance with it, as it stays for the life of this site - we don’t delete any links from our older posts!
So if it looks like there are fewer posts coming from Monika and myself, it’s not because our interest is waning - far from it. It’s because we’ve decided to leave some room for others to contribute too.
We look forward to hearing from you soon!

“(…)written, spell checked and copied into a simple editing program like Notepad. That’s because more sophisticated programs like Word add a lot of extra characters to your text which can cause formatting problems when you transfer it into Wordpress.”
Had I known this before, I wouldn’t have wasted my time editing my posts on Google Docs: despite being an online tool, it adds extra characters to your text too. I only realised it when it was time to copy and paste my stuff into the WP editor. I had to spend some minutes fixing the post’s code before (re)submitting it. I’ve learned my little lesson.
I’ve noticed this slowdown, but I’m sure that quality will always prevail here.
I’m glad to be one of your guest bloggers, and I have more articles to post. Just wait and you’ll see.

Thanks Karen, we’re glad that you’re guest blogging here too
I admit to using Word to compose my posts because it spell checks in English (not the US version as WP does, which is confusing) then copy and paste into Notepad then again into WP. It’s a nuisance but better than losing it all by typing in an online prog like google docs and then have Firefox crash in the middle (or near the end).
Ho hum, the price we pay to avoid using IE at all costs…

Or else you could just use Windows Live Writer!
Hehe…seriously guys, I haven’t looked back since I have been using it and the posts come out a lot neater formatted! The time I save with this is amazing. It also has spell check and you can post live to the blog from your Live Writer, no need to login etc. Well, at least not for us Terry. But I post into back office anyway and then fill out the SEO plugin info before it goes live.

In an attempt to reverse the slowdown I have posted my first article but I’ll be darned if I couldn’t find the “Publish” button - I suspect that Monika and Terry have control over that little goodie.
Not sure how to alert you two or if you even need a heads up but consider yourself informed.
Ok, Trent and karen… it’s a three way race now!

Hey Grizzly,
You are posted. The reason you don’t see the publish button is because Terry and I approve each post first. This is to deter the scummy artists who try to sneak in a crappy post on their behalf. Sorry, for you honest guys it means a bit of annoyance.
I normally check the drafts when I login anyway (twice daily) and will publish any post that contains the signature. I’ve seen your draft there previously but since it wasn’t finished I left it.
I’ll be excited to see who wins the race this month.

Good Morning from me and Good Evening to you…
Ha… A wise move, you definitely don’t want me getting my grubby little fingers on that button - God knows what I would turn your site into!
Nice to know you can see my work in progress - now I know where I can leave you messages - glad you could tell I wasn’t finished, had to rethink things a few times as I don’t want to post something a little to “out there” on here.

LOL

Lost for words huh Terry!
Ha.
November 11th, 2007 at 12:17 pm
I just saw that LOL comment - I know I’ve been having problems loggin in - still have as it happens, but I didn’t write that comment!
When has anyone ever known me to use one word when ten will do!
I’m perplexed! In fact more than that - have I been hacked? AVG assures me that I’m clean but…
It’s very strange that this is the only wordpress blog that I have trouble logging into on Firefox - its ok on IE…
Or is someone having a little joke at my expense?
Hmmm…
November 11th, 2007 at 12:46 pm
Not me… Honest - I am not smart enough for that!
If you didn’t leave the comment then there might be cause for some concern though.
Change your password pronto.
November 11th, 2007 at 2:40 pm
That part of the problem might have already been cured as Monika changed my password for me on the 6th, the day after that comment was posted, when I threw the towel in after not being able to log in for at least 2 days.
If my password had been hacked then the change would have plugged that hole.
I’m still not sure about this - I deleted and re-installed Firefox, cleared the cache and deleted all the cookies (which then gave me another headache in chasing down bits of paper for all my hundreds of userids and passwords…).
The problem still persists in Firefox - I can log in to wordpress and the dashboard opens but I get logged straight out again with the login graphic plastering itself all over the dashboard.
Which to me looks like some malware in the works someplace. But I and my trusty virus checker can’t see anything untoward!
More curious is that nothing else is affected. I can log into my myriad of wordpress blogs (hosted on different hosts) no problem. And I can (as you see) log in here using leaky old IE. I don’t add up!
And I hate IE - all my nice tools are on Firefox!
¡Esta jodido! - as they say here.

I haven’t had a problem to log on here and send my newest post (a three way race, right, Grizzly?). Just like you, I detest IE and use Firefox for everything. So it may be a malware indeed, though I lack the technical knowledge needed to understand such problems.
A few days ago Firefox wouldn’t load any feeds on Google Reader, no matter how hard I tried (and I had to use IE to read the feeds I’m subscribed to). Luckily it’s working again now. But you see, you’re not the only one facing weird Firefox issues lately.
“Or is someone having a little joke at my expense?”
That wasn’t me, I swear! I had found that “LOL” comment very strange, but now that I know it hasn’t been posted by you… I’m a bit scared.
