Making Money Blogging Basics for Beginners

There are thousands of people who are making money blogging right now and new blogs are being started all the time. You can make money blogging and it’s not as hard as you may think. I will admit, it’s not the easiest thing in the world but anyone can do it if they are willing to put in the time and effort.

The first thing to remember if you are started a new blog is to stay away from the “Make Money Online” (MMO) niche. It is very hard to make money blogging in the MMO niche. There are many reasons for that but I won’t go into them right now. Just take my word for it.

There are thousands of easier niches you can tap in to and make money blogging about them. All you have to do is use a free keyword tool and do a little research. Start with things you are interested in or know a lot about, and go from there. You should be able to find a good niche pretty quickly. The more it gets searched for the better. However, volume of searches is not the only thing you need to take into consideration. You are looking for niches that have a fairly large market with money they are willing to spend, and not a lot of competition.

You can find the first one with the Google Keyword Tool. It will tell you the approximate monthly search volume for any keyword phrase and how strong the advertiser competition is. If there is a lot of advertiser competition then it’s usually a good indicator that the niche has profit potential.

Then, you need to see how much competition there is for that keyword phrase. An easy way to do that is to go to Google and search for it in quotes. The results will come up with sites that are using that exact phrase on their sites. You can see that number in the top right corner of the search results page. You do want some competition but not a lot.

Once you find a good niche then all you have to do is set up your blog and start blogging. Wordpress and Blogger are popular blogging platforms that are free and very easy to use. After you get some blog posts written and published you should start getting inbound links. This can be done through article marketing, link exchanges, dofollow blog commenting, buying links, directories, social bookmarking, forums and many other ways.

Updating your blog often with quality content and getting a lot of keyword anchored inbound links will increase your search engine rankings and start bringing in a lot of traffic to your blog. Once you have the traffic you can put up some affiliate links, do paid reviews, sell advertising or any of the other methods there are for making money from a blog.

That’s pretty much all there is to making money blogging. Of course, this post is a very summed up and simplified guide for how you can make money blogging for free. But it is the basics of how you do it. Use my tips as a guide and do some searching for a more in-depth explanation of anything you don’t understand. You could have your niche picked and blog set up in a matter of hours, and be making money from it very soon.

Blogging with the Trends

Sometimes it’s hard to find a good topic for a new blog post and you need a little help. One way to do that is to take a look at Google Hot Trends and see what the hot topics of the day are. You can usually find at least one trend to fit with most niches so there’s a good chance you will be able to find something that will work for your blog.

This can also be a great way to get a nice boost in traffic. If you blog about a hot topic and your blog has enough authority to get posts indexed quickly and rank well then you stand a good chance of getting thousands of new visitors who are searching for that topic.

Going for the hottest topics on the list probably won’t do much for you because they will have already been picked up by the huge authority sites that you don’t have a chance at competing against. However, if you pick a topic somewhere in the middle to end of the hot trends you might just reap the rewards.

As I said above, there’s usually enough of a range of topics that you should be able to find a trend that is at least somewhat relevant to your blogs niche. You should choose a term that is as closely related to your niche as possible. You could also just start a general information blog and make all of your posts based on any hot trends that interest you on a daily basis.

Use Google Trends to your advantage to help you find topics to blog about and possibly bring in huge surges of traffic to your blog.

Blog, Blog, Blog, All Day Long…

…Blog, Blog, Blog while I sing this song… I’m gonna write this post, I’m gonna publish it online… Then I’ll start another but I don’t know why!

Does that pretty much sum up your daily blogging habits? Are you one of those bloggers who thinks you need to constantly update your blog as much as humanly possible? If so, I want you to sit back in your chair right now and really think about why you feel the need to write 10 blog posts every day even if you really don’t have anything to say.

Contrary to what you may have been told before, there really is no need to update your blog numerous times per day. In fact, you don’t even need to update your blog once per day! It is much better to write a couple long, informative, useful posts per week than it is to write a bunch of worthless posts every day just for the sake of doing it.

Just think about how much less stressful your life would be if you weren’t constantly thinking about how you need to write a new blog post or trying to think of something to say. Write higher quality posts less often and you will actually be doing yourself and your readers a favor. Heck you will probably even gain more readers by doing this.

Remember quality is always better than quantity!

How to Make Money Online, Not!

Everyone wants to know how to make money online and most people like to write about it in their blogs even though they don’t actually make money online themselves. Then there are those people brand new to all of this who want to know how to make money online for beginners. Of course, there are many ways to to go about learning how to make money online, but most of them will fail.

So this is a post about how to make money online, NOT!

First of all, go read all the so-called A-lister’s blogs, you know the ones, like John Chow, Yaro, Shoemoney, Problogger, Gary Conn, etc and learn everything they have to teach you about building a great Make Money Online blog and attracting thousands of feed readers and social traffic from Stumbleupon, Digg and Twitter etc, then put up a load of ads so all those visitors will click on them and you’ll make a ton of money.

Well with high expectations and the promise of all that money falling out of the sky into your lap you get started in earnest. Check out all the eBooks in the sidebars of the A-list gurus because they’re sure to show you even more great secrets on how to make money online that you may have missed and keep reading the top people’s blogs for more great info.

Then stumble on some foul mouthed Puerto Rican in an ugly looking blog called BloggerUnleashed who tells you that everything you’ve just learned is crap. But you should ignore him because he uses the F word a little too often and what can he know about how to make money online anyway? Why he had the audacity to call your best mate Gary Conn a scammer. And he takes the piss out of John Chow all the time. Sheesh, what does he know! Hell, write a post in your blog and call out that lying SOB. You could even challenge him to a contest to see who can really generate the most traffic. Why I bet you could easily take ten grand off him for getting more Google traffic to your great up and coming soon to be A-list blog! Be a cinch!

And look at the dross of society that hang out with him!

Some Canadian who calls himself Grizzly or something and he’s supposed to teach you how to make money with a crappy looking free blogger blog? Come on, these people must be so stupid to take any notice of an obvious liar like that hahaha.

And then there’s some guy who looks like a funny parrot who writes a reviews blog and another one who wants to show you how to make money the “Honest Way”. I ask you, who in their right mind would trust someone who blatantly called themselves honest?

So you get back to your feed building and get ever more social traffic to your great MMO blog. Hey, you aren’t seeing a lot of clicks on all those great looking ads you have in your sidebar yet, but the gurus promise that it will come in time, so you redouble your efforts and post comments in ever more social blogs and make ever more friends in MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog and spend a good three or four hours a day messaging them all because its so important to keep them interested in you and your MMO blog.

Then after you’ve been doing that for like two years and the bank are just about to foreclose on your mortgage, your spouse is packing their bags to leave you for good and you’re credit cards are all maxed out because you bought every eBook you could get your hands on and signed up for every mentoring school by all the best gurus to show you how to make a thousand dollars a day… face it, you’re broke and you failed.

What can you possibly do to turn things around?

You barely made enough in all that time from all those ads to cover the cost of your hosting. Oh, wait a minute, no you didn’t… your premium MMO blog doesn’t seem to be displaying in your browser any more. I guess your hosting company didn’t get their last monthly payment from your now empty PayPal account.

It looks like there’s only one thing left to do

Go and get a JOB!

…Six months later…

You’re on Google and you happen to search on “How to Make Money Online” and of the 10  million or so competing pages, right there at the top is that crappy free blogger blog by that Grizzly guy. No, surely… he can’t possibly be…

Building Blogs and Flipping Them for Profit

In the past few years, the make money online niche has become almost a jungle situation where it’s “survival of the fittest” and if you haven’t been an internet marketer for quite a while then tapping into the make money online niche is going to be a long uphill battle. I’m not saying it’s impossible to compete in the MMO niche because it’s not. However, it won’t be easy. But there is a fairly new trend that is quickly gaining popularity and you could jump on board and cash in on it…

The title of this post probably tipped you off to what I am about to say, but there is a huge market right now for buying and selling blogs, and if you’re even a little bit knowledgeable about blogging, then this is a great opportunity for you to start making money online.

Flipping blogs you won’t have to learn a lot of the usual internet marketing stuff, like:

1. Adsense
2. List building
3. Affiliate marketing
4. Niche marketing
5. SEO

And the list goes on and on….

Instead, you can focus on a different way to make money through blogs, and really do well with it if you follow a few simple guidelines. Blogs are hot right now and you could be banking some serious cash by flipping blogs. The steps below should be taken using the Wordpress.org blogging platform.

Here are the basic steps you need to take so you can make money flipping blogs:

1. Pick a niche or topic that you want the blog to be about. It could pretty much be any niche, but make sure there is a market for it.

2. Purchase a related domain name for the blog, and hosting if you don’t already have it.

3. Buy a premium theme for your blog, so that it looks more professional. If you don’t know where to find these, then do a Google search for “Premium Wordpress Themes”.

4. Write (or outsource) about 20 or 30 articles centered around various keywords in the niche to post on the blog, and time stamp them so that you have a new one posted automatically every day or every other day.

5. Customize the blog with a cool logo for even more of a professional look (you can outsource logo creation pretty cheap on most of the webmaster forums in their “buy/sell/trade” section).

6. Once you have the blog ready and customized to your liking, then you need to start promoting the heck out of it. Comment on dofollow blogs, network with other bloggers, utilize social bookmarking/networking sites, submit to directories, do some article marketing, press releases or any other way you can to build up traffic and links to the blog.

7. When you have all the steps above done and the blog has aged for a while, it’s time to sell! Head over to a site like the Sitepoint.com marketplace, and list your blog for sale. Get a feel for what you should list it for by looking at similar blogs being sold and what kind of stats (traffic, revenue, RSS subscribers, etc…) they have. Even fairly new blogs with some traffic and readership have sold anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand dollars. Make sure your auction listing details everything about the site, and emphasizes the strong points to make it attractive for potential buyers.

You can do this over and over again for as many blogs as you have time to keep up with. Some of the blogs you flip will sell for a huge profit and some won’t make you much money. You will probably even have several that don’t sell at all. That’s not a big deal. Just move on to another one.

One more hint to remember is that when you build a blog that gets a lot of bids or sells for a lot of money then it’s probably a good idea to build more of them in that niche. Using the steps above will give you a nice head start on flipping blogs for profit, and it really is pretty darn easy to do!

Are You Blogging Just for the Sake of Blogging?

Have you ever sat back and asked yourself why it is that you spend day after day blogging? Do you have a purpose? Do you make money? Do you want to make money? Do you even know how to go about building a profitable blog? Are you trying to get famous? Are you just trying to get yourself heard? Do you market your blog?

There are far too many people who blog day in and day out without really knowing why, and without getting anything in return. I’ve seen countless blogs over the years come to an end far before their time. These were blogs that I visited often and were updated frequently with great posts and packed with tons of useful information. The owners wrote new blog posts all the time but eventually they had to quit because they weren’t making any money or getting anything else in return for their efforts. But why?

Think about it…

If you are blogging to make money, you need visitors so they can take the actions necessary for you to make money. If you are blogging for fame, you need people to come to your blog so you can get famous. If you are blogging just to get your personal thoughts out there, you still need visitors to read them or else there is no point in doing it. Do you see the recurring theme here? It’s people coming to your blog! And to do that you need to market your blog instead of just blogging.

Remember that blogging by itself will get you nowhere. It’s the marketing of that blog that really counts. A mediocre blogger who is an excellent marketer will win every time over an excellent blogger who doesn’t market their blog. I know of many blogs that don’t teach much of anything but they make thousands of dollars per month because they are marketed very well. I also know of numerous blogs that are loaded with great information but they don’t make money because they are not marketed properly.

As an internet marketer, the biggest part of your business is to “market” your website, blog, product, or whatever you built your online business around. That’s how you will make money online!

NOT For Sale!

Ok, you had your chance to snap this little baby up for a song. Too late!

Blogging Web 2.0 is OFF The Market!

Yep, now its off the market, we decided its too valuable as a future asset to simple give away especially so cheaply. We are NOT accepting any more bids of a few hundred dollars for a site that is potentially worth thousands in future revenue and re-sale value.

That’s the great thing about online real estate, it goes up in value over time, not down! Especially a valuable piece of cyber real estate such as Blogging Web 2.0, which thanks to the recent upsurge in Web 2.0 interest across the Internet, is poised at the forefront of this modern online revolution.

If you think the social networking and blogging scene is on fire right now, imagine where it will be in a year’s time!

Oh yes, you’ll be kicking yourself now that you’ve had too long to hesitate and think it over, because he who hesitates is lost - and if you were contemplating getting your hands on this baby for a song, you hesitated a little too long and now you’ve lost out. Its out of your reach.

It would take a damn BIG offer to prise this treasure trove out of our hands now!

We’ve talked this over and realized what a gold mine we have on our hands here with the last little mini-experiment I did with keyword sniping for the term “On Site SEO” it got us onto page one of Google in a few days. Now that we know the SERPs authority this baby carries, that experiment can and will be repeated for more lucrative keywords.

And it will work. Want to know why?

Because this site is NOT mired down in any one niche. It is not set in concrete and our posts (its content life-blood) are on a number of different topics making it a blogging all-rounder capable of dominating several different niches with sub-pages backed up by solid keyword-heavy posts.

Think I’m joking?

Just wait and see…
