Slim Down Your Online Money Making Operation
January 14th, 2010 by Terry
When you’re busy with Internet marketing and spend all your days hammering away at your computer seven days a week, yet you still don’t seem to be making any headway, its a good idea to stop what you’re doing, sit back and take a long hard look at how you divide up your day. You’ll probably find that you’re spending a lot of time trying to market on a lot of different fronts and this is what is sapping all your time. Sometimes, it helps to get all your different niches down in a big spreadsheet and see where you can slim down your operations.
By this I don’t mean stop working on all your niches altogether, but I do mean concentrating all your efforts onto one or two main niches and leave all the others on the back burner until you start seeing positive results from your main niches. The best way to start seeing results, and by results I mean real cash flowing into your paypal or bank account, is to work on one fairly uncompetitive niche while working peripherally on that high competition niche you’ve been slogging away at for two years or so.
The reason for that is the uncompetitive niche will start to bring in money fairly quickly when you concentrate your efforts on it, while you still keep up some link building and article writing work on your bigger, longer term niche that will one day bear a lot of fruit.
So lets say you’re working a high competitive niche like home mortgages, or finance and loans, or weight loss tips, or something equally tough. That niche will get there with constant link building and by building the size of your main site into a big, content rich authority on the subject, but it will take a lot of time to gain that authority. You’ll probably need in excess of a hundred, 400 word plus articles and better two hundred plus articles, all relevant to the niche, to gain authority status in the SERPs. That good but you’ll also need a ton of links to your site from many different sources with varying anchors as well as your main keyword anchor to rise up the SERPs into a position where you’ll start getting enough traffic to make money off.
So in the meantime, choose a far less competitive niche that will bring in enough traffic from the SERPs to monetize and get an income coming in so you can pay for hosting, buying more domains etc. There are plenty to choose from and you need to work long tail keywords that attract at least a thousand searches a month although you can do ok with less to begin with then grow it by attracting more related keyword searches.
The bottom line in Internet marketing when using the search engines to generate your traffic for you is not to but all your eggs into one basket but to diversify as much as possible. Just don’t diversify all at once. As soon as one low competition niche starts producing revenue, move on to the next but not before you have established your site in the SERPs or you’ll soon see that income dry up again.
Lastly, stay determined and be tenacious because success comes from never giving up!

How to Make Money Online with Adsense
March 13th, 2009 by Terry
Just lately, there’s been a minor flurry of Internet Marketers who are beginning to turn their backs on the supposedly hard and fast rules of making money by building up a huge list of noobs and then pimping all the latest Clickbank crap to them. They are, instead, re-learning the basics of how to make money online with Adsense.
I say re-learning, because so many beginners to the business are put off trying to learn how to make money online with Adsense when they build a great looking blog, slap up some Adsense then sit back waiting for the clicks that never come. They have probably been told in the beginning that they need traffic to their blogs in the first place and that traffic has to be targeted. What they’re probably not told is that targeted traffic is really only going to come from the search engines, and for that to happen, they need their blog to rank for its main keywords first.
Second they need their keywords to attract sufficient searches in the first place. That means a decent number of people coming toyour site direct from the search engines looking for something to do with your keyword. because that’0s how they found you in the first place.
The minor revolution in how to make money online has been sparked off by a few people in particlular, who have all been featured and linked to in this blog in previous posts, namely Griz, Vic and Court amongst others. But there is a method in my own madness here, because while its nice to link out to these guys, its also important to use blog posts to link out to your own sites when they need a little lift. Which is the underlying reason for this post.
You see, in order to rank for your keywords in any niche, you need backlinks form other blogs and static websites that live on different servers (and therefore IP addresses) to your own. It helps if you have access to such blogs so that you can post on them and include a link or two to these fledgling blogs and help them up the ladder. Sort of like this blog is for me. Ok, I’m co-author with Monika, but it lives on a different server to the blogs I’m going to link to and so give them some nice juice to help them on their way.
This is really a part of article marketing which is the Internet Marketer’s bread and butter when it comes to obtaining links to their sites. Unfortunately, the main search engine which drives most of the organic traffic around the place has done something to its internal gubbins that has managed to devalue the link juice coming from the traditional article directories. Which is why posting unique articles yourself by hand in blogs such as this one (because I can and you can’t unless you sign-up) is teh way to go now, because they still carry the most link juice.
So, one self-serving blog post all about how to make money online with Adsense later and my own blog has got its link and is sent happily on its way to ranking in its niche, which will doubtless take a rather long time seeing as how in this instance it is working the highly competitive MMO niche, which every astute marketer will tell you to steer clear of as you are up against too many knowledgeable people who will continue to outrank you. But that’s not going to stop me from getting a foot in the door with a growing network of blogs that will, in good time, make the difference between nowhere and no way, to somewhere and a definite way!
So how does all this tie in with how to make money with Adsense?
Well, 90% of the work is in getting your site ranked in the search engines, and in particular Google. Once you’ve achieved that and the targeted traffic is flowing, then and only then do you put up Adsense ads on your blog. The clicks you will get will be targeted and they will therefore attract the most CPC, meaning you will be making money from your Adsense ads. It helps if your blog is set out with only Adsense, and the ad block is prominently placed. It also helps if your blog is not to fussy - the plainer the better with as few distractions as possible as you don’t want visitors clicking out on other links that don’t make you any money!
It doesn’t take a lot of brain work to figure out that the more traffic you get from the search engines, the more you will make from Adsense. If you can do that for one blog in one niche, then you can repeat it with more blogs in other niches.

Make Money by Working With Search Engines
December 6th, 2008 by Terry
Here’s a timely reminder that things will be easier for you in your quest to learn how to make money online that was sparked off by Trent’s previous post here at Blogging Web 2.0. He mentioned getting your blog noticed in the search engines in order to attract traffic, the kind of traffic that will convert into revenue when you find a good niche to work in.
I’m going to expand on that part somewhat by saying that while many bloggers are spending all their time chasing social traffic. They do this by doing the rounds and reading umpteen other peoples’ blogs, commenting in them, then using social networks like Digg or Stumbleupon etc to attract more traffic to their blogs. Well that’s fine of you like looking at your stats and seeing a few hundred unique visitors coming to your blog, as long as you have posted in there, that is.
But reading your stats isn’t going to make you a dime. Neither are those social visitors, because, let’s face it, they’re all just like you. They are bloggers too and they know what ads look like and they don’t click on them. So you’re working like a trooper, posting every day and commenting all over the place and not making any money!
No matter what anyone else tells you, if you want to know how to make money online, you need Google to rank your blog on its first page for its main and several long tail keywords if you are going to stand any chance of making money from it. Other search engines will also bring you traffic, but Google are the main prize as they generate fully 67% of all search traffic. All the other search engines put together generate the remaining 33%, which is divvied up between the likes of Yahoo, MSN, All The Web, AOL etc. While ranking well with all of them will contribute to your blog’s overall potential earnings, the lion’s share will come from Google.
So instead of wasting your day doing the social blogging rounds and checking your stats, use that time wisely to get yourself lots of strong, keyword anchored backlinks to your blog. And not just to your homepage, but also to your deeper pages with long tail keywords in the anchor mixed up with your main keyword. That way you’ll begin to rank well for lots of different keywords and start attracting traffic from lots of different searches.
And don’t expect it all to happen overnight.
Be patient, because Google are relatively slow to count new links. While you’re waiting, don’t sit back and revert to the social scene and checking stats, keep at it by continually creating new backlinks. Sure, in order to keep the how to make money online momentum going, keep writing in your blog too to increase its content. Make good use of those posts and include your main and long tail keywords in the content of each post. The more keywords you can get in there (without stuffing) the more ways you will rank in the search results. And the more traffic you will attract!
And what does traffic make? Money, that’s what!
Of course, your blog will need to be monetised in order to make that money, so either put up some Adsense, or affiliate links with some good reviews of the products you’re selling.
One last thing… If you’ve been relying on the odd reader throwing some chump change into your hat by clicking on the “buy me a beer” or whatever begging method you’ve got sitting in your sidebar, get rid of it! Most serious marketers (me included) have a serious dislike of begging as it implies failure, like a beggar in the street. And you want to be a success, right?
Well, what are you waiting for? Stop reading about it and get out there and start doing it!

You Don’t Need To Be An Ass Kicking Marketer To Make Money Online
August 7th, 2008 by Carla Chadwick
I am constantly amazed at how people perceive the make money online industry. Most think that for some reasons you have to be nasty, deceiving and cruel to make an honest living online. In fact, if you believe this to be true, think again. If a 17 year old kid can build traffic and make money with his entrepreneur blog, then so can you.
Who am I talking about? The guy I’m referring to is a young kid by the name of Jason Pereira. He is currently living in Dubai and studies on the Australian University there. His entrepreneur blog is his vehicle to make money online while supporting a great lifestyle no doubt.
I was impressed by the way Jason projects a sound business mind while pursuing his dreams. He manages to earn a decent income online which is unheard off for most who try.
Many get sidetracked and eventually give up, but Jason and his entrepreneur blog just keep powering on. His blog The University Kid is an entrepreneur blog through.
I really can’t help admiring this guy and wish that I was that smart at his age. But I wasn’t. And what seems to come totally natural to Jason at only 17 (and younger) took a lot of hard work at my end.
hats off to this guy. I can see him going a long way further and his entrepreneur blog will help him to do so.
Now, if you are wondering why I’m linking to this guy like a mad idiot, there is actually a reason for this insanity. Jason is going to give away one of his secret to making at least $50 a day on August 12th if you do what I just did.
Since I’m a sucker for secrets (especially if they result in additional income) I figured why not. Therefore, this is the fifth link Jason requires for his entrepreneur blog to hand me his secret.

HubPages for Backlinks
July 18th, 2008 by lissie
Squidoo is probably better known than Hubpages - but for my money - Hubpages is the better bet for not only developing back links but also getting qualified traffic, and the potential to develop your hubpage home page with a good PR, a number of the better hubs have PR4 on their home page now. Oh and you can add as many links as you like on your home page!
What I like about hubpags includes:
- easy to add videos and pictures to break up the text: and get a bit of traffic from image searches;
- simple to use, no HTML is allowed and the capsules are more limited than squidoo’s but this makes it quick and easy to create an hub;
- use news feeds and/or eBay capsules for automatic updates for your hubs;
- limit to only 2 “self-serving” links per a hub keeps the spam level relatively low.
There are a couple of quirks with Hub Page that those who want to use hubpages for internet marketing purposes should know.
Hubpages Forum’s Ambiance
A number of the active community on the forums are primarily writers rather than online business people. There is a strong feeling that writing is important. Commercial hubs are tolerated - but anyone naively coming to the forums and asking what the community thinks of their very first hub: “How to Make Money Fast Online” will get short shrift - and probably get their hub flagged as inappropriate. Yes that’s right a lot of hubs which are flagged are done by community, so be respectful!
Hubscore Matters
Every hubber has an overall hubscore, and every hub as an individual hubscore. The two are somewhat related and both reflect traffic, particularly from outside hubpages, length of hub, and, in the case of the hubber’s hubscore, in activity such as rating other hubs, commenting and forum posting. And unless your hubscore is 75 your hub’s links will be tagged as “no follow” - a hub every month or so should see you easily maintain that score. This is the single most important feature of hubpages, in my opinion, because it keeps the spammers out.
Hubpages has never suffered from the fall from favour that squidoo has had. Most hubs are indexed within a few hours.
Hubpages appears to have a strong nternal linking strategy - with each home page have links to latest, hot and best hubs. Certain tags are routinely featured on the front page: make sure you include any that are relevant in your hubs: entertainment, how to, money, business, family are commonly featured. Tags are keywords and you should add a good number to your hub to improve your internal backlinks
Elisabeth Sowerbutts is an active hubpages author and wrote Hubpages and Internet Marketing for those who want to use Hubpages for internet marketing to best effect.
