Do You Need Advertising on Your Blog?
October 14th, 2007 by Monika
There are a lot of arguments on whether we should place advertising on our blogs or websites. Some say it deters our readers and they will never come back and others yet say that unless we advertise we won’t make money.
Both of these arguments do hold some truth within and I think what matters to us as individuals is the balance we achieve.
Personally I am not fazed by Google ads or affiliate URL’s on blogs, as long as they are unobtrusive and do not interfere with my browsing.
What I simply can’t stand are those misleading websites you happen to come across on Google while doing research and all they offer are PPC links to other sites. These guys irate me to the core and I normally don’t give them a second chance by clicking on anything.
If sites or blogs are predominantly littered with ads, I also navigate away, never to return. But if a blogger has some ads in certain parts of their site, then I’m not going to judge them by this alone. If the content is generally good, I even contribute toward their earning by clicking on certain ads at times.
This blog also contains a small fraction of ads aimed at monetizing the site while it grows bigger and better. All the income is shared between Terry and myself and later on when we actually do make real money (instead of pennies :-)) we will actually develop a strategy to share some of it with our best authors.
This is another reason, why you want to be in at the ground floor as both Terry and myself like to reward those that deserve it for their loyalty.
I would like to hear from you on your own views regarding advertising and whether you approve of it on blogs/websites or not. Also, do you use advertising on your own sites and if yes, in what form? (Banners, text link, affiliate products, PPC)
Maybe we can establish some form of preferences across bloggers and see what really matters to each one of us and why. This will help us all to improve our services.
