Just about everyone has heard of blogs these days, even those who don’t actually have one. If you haven’t heard of blogs or if you have heard of them but still aren’t sure what they are, here is a highly simplified definition: A blog is a website containing many posts about a certain subject and is updated on a regular basis. However, a blog can be so much more than that. If you have an online business there are numerous ways a blog can help you, whether you are just starting out or have already built a successful business online.

Here are just a few of the ways a blog can help your online business:

* Within minutes you can show your thoughts, sale pitches, business information, website links, and so much more to the world by simply publishing it on your blog. If you have something to say just type up a quick post and publish it on your blog. It will be visible to the world instantly. This is a great way to keep the content on your website fresh and up to date. How much easier could it get?

* Another way blogs are beneficial to an online business is that they cost next to nothing to run. In fact, you can even get them for free through services such as blogger.com and wordpress.com. A blog is a great way to get your online business up and going without spending any (or very little) money.

* Blogs also require very little technical knowledge and are a much easier and faster way to start on the web. There is no need to learn html or any programming languages because the blogging software takes care of all that for you. Also, it’s a fact that to get better search engine rankings and more traffic to your website, you must update the content often and consistently, and blogs are the easiest way to do that. Almost all of the top internet marketers have blogs, that tells you something right there.

* Blogging can also give your online business a huge edge over your competition if they are not utilizing blogs because your visitors can easily post their questions, comments, and suggestions. You can then reply with answers quickly and easily. You will gain repeat visitors and acquire a following if you are helpful and pay attention to suggestions.

* You can also make money directly from your blog. There are many ways you can make money blogging. I went over this in my last post so I won’t go into detail here.

To summarize, you should definitely be using blogging as an online business tool. There are plenty of advantages to having a blog, even many more than outlined above. If you are not using blogs in your online business, you are missing out on a lot of benefits!

It amazes me that many people still haven’t realised how benefitial a blog could be to their businesses. And there are also some conservative webmasters who see blogging as a “minor” activity. Well, maybe after reading your article they’ll understand what they have been missing.
