How to Get More Subscribers to Your Blogs RSS Feed

As bloggers one thing we all have in common is that we want more subscribers to our RSS feeds. There are plenty of ways to increase the amount of subscribers to your blog but many people just don’t know how to do it. Below I have given some simple and very effective strategies to help you gain more feed readers.
* Write great content - This should go without saying but there are still plenty of people out there who think all they need to do is post anything on their blog and they will bring in subscribers. Nobody will want to subscribe to your blog unless your posts are informative and quality enough for them to want to keep updated on what you have to say. You must also post frequently enough to keep them subscribed.
* Ask visitors to subscribe - Usually when we want somebody to do something in our daily lives offline we simply ask them to do it. Well there is no reason why you can do that online as well. Put a little note under each of your posts asking them to subscribe if they haven’t already done so.
* Make it simple to subscribe - I’ve many seen many blogs without any visible way for visitors to subscribe or if they do have one it’s not easy to find. Your feed subscribe button should be in a prominent place on every page of your blog and very easy for anyone to find.
* Write extra posts just for them - One great way to get more blog feed subscribers is to write posts that only your subscribers can read. It makes it more special for them because they are getting bonus information that nobody else gets. Make it well known that you do this for your subscribers so more people will want to subscribe.
* Put your feed URL in blog comments - This is something I have just started doing recently and it works very well. When you visit other blogs and make comments on their posts you are usually able to put a link to your site. However, most blogs have nofollow tags on the link so it doesn’t help you any with your inbound link count. So instead of putting a link to your blog put in the URL to your feed. When people click it they will be more likely to subscribe simply because you have already taken them that far.
* Contests - Holding a contest in one of the fastest ways to increase your blog subscribers. All you have to do is give away money or prizes, or anything of value to your readers. You will have ways to enter the contest and one way to enter should be to subscribe to your feed. You can even give subscribers extra entries as further incentive to subscribe.
* Do/don’t display your reader numbers - Displaying your feed count can help increase your subscribers but only if you already have enough subscribers to make them want to join the crowd. If you have at least 100 subscribers then do show your count. If have less than 100 subscribers do not show your count.
Alright, now you have some very effective ways to get more subscribers to your blogs RSS feed. It all starts with great content and regular posting, and goes from there. Put these strategies into practice starting today and you will have a growing amount of blog subscribers almost immediately.

In a subtle bit of irony, your feed link at the top isn’t working — there’s an ; in the URL instead of a : .
Robert,
That is a nice find. I’m sure Monika or Terry will see this and fix it. If not I will alert them of it.
Thanks for pointing that out.

Robert: thank you for pointing this out. It had actually been pointed out to me before and I totally forgot about fixing it.
The big orange button works, but I can’t figure out how to fix the little icon in the browser window?
Trent: great post, what also helped me get numbers up was once I started to display a subscribe to email box. I like your idea on signing forum posts with the rss link. I’ve done that before but stopped again.
