Why Are Spammers So Stupid?

Well, this might stir up a bit of a blogging hornet’s nest but then so it should. Here at Blogging Web 2.0 we’ve come to the conclusion that 99% of spammers are stupid and that’s official!
Why are spammers so stupid?
Because they have just been gifted a golden opportunity to promote their sites with all the newly promoted blogs with improved page ranks. All they have to do is write some relevant and interesting comments for the latest posts in the many “do follow” blogs and make sure their site is not seen to be a porn or hate site and they will get lots of valuable back-links to boost the promotion prospects of their sites.
So what do they do?
They spam a load of useless crap comments to all my blogs (and lots of other people’s blogs too) which get trapped by spam filters or moderation and get deleted. Guess what? Not a drop of link juice for their efforts.
How can these people be so unbelievably stupid?
An intelligent spammer has the chance here to completely wipe the floor with 99.9% of all these stupid spammers. I’ll even tell them how to do it!
Simple.
Set up a legitimate website and put enough genuine content on its home page or better still make it a blog, so that it will pass a cursory inspection. Then set up its second level pages which will sell all the stuff that spammers like to sell – you know what I’m talking about.
Then get busy making intelligent comments in other people’s blogs. The links to your homepage will not flag any spam alerts so you’re links will pass through the moderators system and you’re home and dry. Get enough of these links and your site will get a boost in the next page rank shake-up.
How hard is that?
Will any spammers take any notice of this?
Of course not, because they don’t read anyone else’s articles, because they’re too busy being stupid! Too busy posting crap comments that no one will ever read and that will never generate a back-link to their crap websites.
And a total annoyance to us legit bloggers who have to waste our time deleting all their irritatingly stupid and irrelevant comments from our moderation page.
Maybe they are really so stupid to think that we’ll approve these comments?
Fat chance!

Comments Equals Posts?

No, that’s not a typo in the the title, it’s deliberate! Sort of a writer’s artistic license to mess with grammar in order to catch the attention of the reader.
I love blog comments, because sometimes they provide me with exactly the right fodder for fueling another post, in those times of brain fug when I can’t think of what to write about next!
In my last post, I mentioned the nine blogs that I own, well that’s only the surface ones. There are a lot more lying on free blogging hosts that I do keep fairly up to date as well as a whole brace of new blogs that I’m in the process of putting together as affiliate niche money makers.
But that’s not the subject of this post.
In the comments of my last post I was asked how on earth I keep up with the writing for so many blogs as well as write articles as a freelancer AND keep on top of so many sites? Monika is just as hard working, I can assure you! So how do we do it?
I think Monika and myself have gotten into a writing frame of mind where we can type away and come up with a lot of good stuff without it seeming to be a chore. That’s how we squeeze it all into a normal day.
For myself, I don’t write for all my blogs every day. Not possible!!!
I try to keep my main blog at The Honest Way posted daily and here in this blog of course, but the others go two or three days between posts which makes it possible to keep them relatively fresh. That way I can keep building more whilst tweaking around with the ones I’ve already got.
I find that commenting in other blogs as well as forums also takes up quite a bit of time, but it’s so worth doing it to keep my profile high and of course attract other bloggers to my blogs and sites!
So the secret to writing large volumes of content is to get into the habit of doing it every day. The more you write and the more often you do it, the more you find you can write. It becomes more of a habit to be clacking away at the keyboard than not!
Of course it helps to have an interest in what you’re writing about. Trying to write about something that holds absolutely no interest for you whatsoever can end up being a real chore. That’s when writing can seem hard work and slow, so the best advice is really to write about what interests you. If you write for a living and find you tend to take on every writing gig that you see, then you’re going to burn out by forcing yourself to write the stuff you don’t like.
Better to turn some of it away even if it means losing some money than to lose it all by getting writer’s burn-out and not being able to write for anything.
So if you’re ever stuck for ideas about what to write about, go visit some other blogs and see what other bloggers are writing to get some inspiration.
And don’t forget to read the comments - sometimes there’s more inspiration in there than you’d think!

Blogging and Wordpress

As a blogger we need a suitable platform to express our inner most thoughts or so they say. It certainly is true that without a blogging platform there won’t be any blogs. And with the multitude of available platforms out there it is sometimes hard to choose which one is best for you. I have tried to compile a list if available choices but recommend that you do some research on the ones that are of interest before you step head first into a possible disaster.
- Wordpress Org (for self hosted blogs)
- Wordpress Com (for free blogs)
- Life Journal
- Life Type
- Blogger
- Boast Machine
- Type Pad
- Thoughts
- Square Space
Alternatively you can just start out here to try out blogging. Starting a blog needs a bit of prior planning as you don’t want to make the same mistake I did. I have started and stopped about 6 blogs all up since late 2005 until I decided to get serious with my Manifesto Blog. The thing is that if I had started right all that time ago, I would now have some serious page rank as well as opportunities to monetize the blog.
I have found Word Press to be the perfect vehicle for my blogs. The navigation is easy to understand and after the initial “getting to know phase” I feel right at home with any Word Press theme. Word Press and Blogger are the number one choice for most bloggers and each one has its own advantages.
I found that with Blogger it is easier to get started and design a blog initially.
With Word Press it takes a bit more time to get to know how it all works but therefore there are way more options in the back admin section. Plus configuring a Word Press Blog is not too hard once you learn a bit of html and php.
Before you jump onto a paid blog it would be advisable to get your feet wet with a trial. Even if you just sign up and muck around with the admin section trying to style things with html. Practice is the best way to learn and will get you to be able to design the blog of your dreams eventually.
Anyway, blogging is time consuming and fun if you are passionate about it like Terry and me. The beauty about free blogging platforms is that you can get your feet wet before you get serious.
Happy blogging
